The ninth edition of the Great Breweries Marathon is scheduled for Sunday 3 May. This highly popular event, which combines sport and Belgian beer culture in a unique way, has become a fixture on the running and walking calendar. Registration for the upcoming edition is now open.

The “Great Breweries” are Duvel Moortgat in Breendonk, Bosteels Brewery in Buggenhout and Brewery Palm & De Hoorn in Steenhuffel. Together, they provide a course that combines sporting challenge with experience.

Participants can choose from three distances. The 17 km route is exclusively for runners. In addition, there are two longer routes — 25 km and the full marathon of 42.195 km — which are open to both runners and walkers. The course runs along quiet, country roads through three provinces: Antwerp, Flemish Brabant and East Flanders.

The start and finish are traditionally located at the Duvel Moortgat Brewery in Breendonk. Along the way, participants also visit the Bosteels Brewery and Palm & De Hoorn Brewery. Walkers can look forward to a beer tasting there.

After finishing, both runners and walkers can raise a glass to their sporting achievement, making sure to enjoy responsibly. All participants will also receive a Great Breweries beer package.

The event is organised by sports company Golazo, in collaboration with the three brewery groups. Last year, more than 5,500 participants took part in the Great Breweries Marathon, spread across all distances.
